YR 1982 UL http://auf.isa-arbor.com/content/8/5/129.abstract AB Early detection and immediate girdling plus prompt removal (within 20 work days) of diseased elms saved more elms at a lower cost than sanitation practices in which diseased elms were just removed promptly or were allowed to remain standing into the dormant season. A 5-year case history demonstrated savings of 25 percent in total cost and an additional 163 elms per thousand.
