Limited availability of water has promoted urbanized population concentrations, with associated urban forests. The generally alkaline soils, combined with a climate of seasonal extremes, provides a real challenge to applied arboriculture in these urban forests. The Tree Care Program for Murray, Utah provides an example of the problems common to the entire state, and some of the solutions developed.
