These add further stresses to trees already faced with existing environmental and urban challenges. Urban tree pests affect all parts of nearly all tree species. Insects and diseases affecting the various tree parts - foliage, shoots, twigs and branches, trunk and roots - are very briefly discussed and a few local examples are mentioned for hardwoods and conifers. Five references are cited for insect and disease identification in eastern Canada.
