Journal Announcement

Over the past two years, ISA has undergone a significant transition process, moving our headquarters from Champaign, IL to Atlanta, GA, bringing on and training new staff, and revitalizing the way we serve our international membership through our products and educational offerings. Now, Arboriculture & Urban Forestry is also experiencing a transition as we prepare for the departure of Dr. Jason Grabosky as Editor-in-Chief (EIC). He will pass on the title to Dr. Cecil Konijnendijk.

Dr. Grabosky has served in his role as the EIC since 2015 while also guiding future researchers and arborists as a Professor at the Rutgers University School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Natural Resources. His passion for the development and growth of the arboriculture industry is also demonstrated by his involvement with the students supported by the Arboriculture Research and Education Academy and his leadership of research events such as Biomechanics Week, which has conducted field experiments every few years since 2010. Dr. Grabosky has overseen multiple special issues of the journal in his tenure as EIC and gave patient support to the editorial office transition that came with ISA’s move to Atlanta.

Dr. Konijnendijk joins Arboriculture & Urban Forestry as his time on the ISA Board of Directors ends. A Professor of urban forestry at the University of British Columbia and former EIC of Urban Forestry & Urban Greening, Dr. Konijnendijk has recently moved to Barcelona, Spain to start as a Director with the newly established Nature-Based Solutions Institute. He is well placed to lead the journal towards its goals of increased submissions, increased relevance, and a greater international impact.

The discussion between the editorial office, Dr. Grabosky, and Dr. Konijnendijk began in the spring of 2020, with the official transition commencing in August, and its conclusion set at the start of 2021. During this time, we aim to ensure that our authors and members experience a seamless handling of the journal’s content. We are also preparing ourselves for future goals by reflecting on what the journal has accomplished in the past. To facilitate this, Dr. Grabosky has conducted a review of the journal’s metadata, the results of which can be found in the following pages of this issue.

The journal Editorial Board, ISA staff, and ISA membership wish to thank Dr. Grabosky for his service to Arboriculture & Urban Forestry, especially in light of the many significant changes the organization has undergone in recent years. His steady support and leadership of the journal have left it well positioned for continued growth in the years to come. It is with great anticipation that we look to our future endeavors under the guidance of Dr. Konijnendijk, and as always, the journal will continue in its mission to foster a greater appreciation for trees and to promote the research, technology, and practice of professional arboriculture and urban forestry.
